The clear covers for the license plate light bulbs have small arrows pointing in one direction. Simply push the cover to the direction of the arrows and the covers will slide off allowing for the old light bulbs to be replaced.

In a 97-03, the bulbs are soldered into the circuit board of the heater controls. Remove the heater control assembly and disassemble it to the board. Desolder the bulbs and replace with new ones from either radio shack or corvetteradios.com. The bulbs are 12v but I don't know the wattage. CorvetteRadios has bulbs for the CD player as well which are similarly soldered into the circuit board on the face plate.
The 2002 Chevy Avalanche does not have user replaceable radio bulbs. The radio needs to be dismantled by a qualified technician to replace the bulbs.
This is a bit dissapointing, but.... you dont in my 98 park avenue the "bulbs" that light up the A/C control are led bulbs, attached to a circuit board. So the only way to really replace them is to either get a new heater control, or solider new led lights to the circuit board.
