if it is just the mirror order a replacement for that model. then break old glass with a small hammer, gently and peel glass parts off mirror back. it is held by double sided tape . push in new one after cleaning. if it is whole assembly remove door inside panel three nuts holding mirror in place and unplug if power from connector
The question you ask is too involved for a proper answer. You may want to go to a car parts store, or book store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00 Or, go to a Public Library.
there is a small removable plate on the bottom side of the mirror assebly, you can use a thin flathead screwdriver to pop that off. once it's removed, you will see a single bolt, you will need a 90 degree screwdriver with a fatter Phillips head to remove the bolt.
this is just for the plain manual mirrors, not any power mirrors.
On the interior of the door, there is a plastic panel right there the mirror is on the outside of the door. it is a sort of triangle shape. You just need to use your fingernail or flathead screwdriver to pry it a little and it will pop out...exposing the screws that hold thre mirror in-place.
This is for a 2002 model, but I would assume they are pretty much the same.
1. Pop off the plastic screw cover behind the inside door handle and remove screw. 2. Pop off the plastic screw cover in the recessed area where you grab the door to close it and remove screw. 3. Remove two (or possibly more) plastic screws around outside edge of door panel. 4. Pop out the plastic light cover near the bottom of the door.
The door panel should now come off. It will probably be connected with the wire for the mirror if you have power mirrors. To replace, reverse the steps above. Sorry if I left something out. I did mine by trial and error and ended up breaking the plastic light cover because I forgot about it.
Updated on 11-13-2010 for a 2005 Mazda MPV LX model:
It was the same, with where the screws were located. (Thank you!) Our model had 2 plastic screws on the edge of the door, one on top and one on bottom.
The mirror was held on by 3 nuts; make sure you have an extension bar for your socket wrench, or scrape your knuckles.
Here's the tricky part:
The cord for the new mirror is about an inch or so SHORTER than the mirror part that you'll be replacing. I ended up popping off the riveted clamp that held the electrical connector, and rerouting it so they would be able to reach each other.
There's a black sticky 'goo' glue keeping the plastic stuck to the door. Just make sure you seal that back properly & tightly.
I am in a similar boat and need to replace a driver's side mirror on a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country. I understand that the trim needs to be removed from above the instrument panel, and then there are three bolts that can be accessed. Do you know exactly which trim panel should be removed, and where the trim pads are located?
..................................................................................................................................
I am going to add to this........because I have a 2006 caravan and had to change the driver side door mirror....
1. First on the dash board, stretch to the front and lift up the panel that run along just next to the wind shield. It will appear to fit snug, but it can be removed. Use a screw driver and lightly try to pry it up..
2. Once removed, you will then have access to the wires and to disconnect them. But first as the first writer said, remove the trim by the mirror by prying them open with a screw driver, careful not to damage them.
Once remove , you will then be able to have access to the three screws and once you unscrew them, you can then disconnect the wires. and replace the mirror. Just reverse the operation. Hope this helps, works well with the 2006 caravan.
adjust the mirror all the way to the left ,, in behind the glass you'll see a piece of small guage wire , this acts as a locking device that holds the glass on the swivels. with a small pair of needle nose , pry each end of the wire back and away from the locked position. This should free up the wire. gently pull away the glass. When re-installing the mirror place the wire in the locked position and the adjusting swivels level and flush with the frame of the mirror. Place the mirror on the mounting swivels and maintaining a straight position , then with the side of your fist give it a good smack to secure it back onto the swivel ring.
to replace the passenger side mirrior you remove passenger door panel then the bolts that hold it on will be right there just take them off and put the new one back on
