well an exact answer would rely on the motor size, but in most cases you just follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to the place it connects to on the motor.. where it connects there will be a small metal housing with 2 or maybe 3 bolts.. remove the bolts and you should be able to find the thermostat hiding under it lol...
The thermostat is located near the intake on a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT. The thermostat can be located by following the upper radiator hose directly to the thermostat.

Depends on what size engine you have, and what year of Grand Am you have. Mine is a 1996 with a 2.4L engine. So my thermostat is located in the bottom radiator hose, where it goes into the water pump.
To replace the thermostat on a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am 3.1, first disconnect the negative battery terminal and loosen the clamp on the radiator hose. Next, remove the mounting bolts from the thermostat housing and insert the new thermostat.
