Assuming a 3.1 engine :
Remove the air filter plenum at the throttle body.
Under the TB is the upper radiator hose nipple.
Remove the radiator hose

Remove the nipple, access the T-stat. Make sure you use a new gasket.
reverse procedure to put the unit back together.

Replace the thermostat.
at or near the thermostat housing
Its located under the throttle body or follow the upper radiator hose til it hits a semi round housing. There is 2 bolts to remove it. First you have to drain the radiator fluid of course. I am changing the thermostat right now on my 2001 Chevy lumina and I see I will have to also remove the throttle body to get to the thermostat housing

The thermostat is located in the thermostat housing at the engine end of the top radiator hose.
In the connection at the radiatorhose and waterpump Follow the upper radiator hose out of the radiator. When that hose connects to your engine, the thermostat is in there.
Look where the top radiator hose connects to the engine(water pump).
right on top on the intake. it is where to top radiator hose connects to the motor.

Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine block. The part the hose is connected to is the thermostat housing. The thermostat is under it.
