For starters get yourself a service manual. The best will cost $30 to 50 and will come from the dealer. All the autoparts stores sell Haynes manuals for less than $15, which are pretty good manuals. On eBay for about $10 you can get a manual on CD, or possibly an old hardcopy service manual.

Toyotas traditionally had timing chains. I don't know if they went to belts on the newer vehicles.Nick
