Unlike the pre 1999 accords, the upper control arm is secured by two bolts which are secured by two captive nuts which are on the outside if the suspension turret.

- it used to be possible on earlier cars to withdraw the bolts from inside the engine bay- very easy but not now, the newer design requires the bolts to be withdrawn from inside the upper wheel arch but the coil spring on the strut will not allow this so you have to drop the complete strut and pull it forwards to allow the bolt to be withdraw behind the spring.

I had typed full instructions regarding this job but as it involves using spring compressors I decided that for legal reasons I was not prepared to be sued by someone who ended up hurt - it seems safer to just say that you need to have enough experience and competence to SAFELY remove a Mc Pherson strut - if you can do that then then you will be able to figure out how to drop the strut in order to gain the necessary clearance to remove the bolts.

It's awkward and company would help - the hardest part is realigning the top part of the strut so that the coil is properly seated.

Sorry if you were looking for a step by step guide

You have to take the control arm and ball joint to a shop and have them pressed together, otherwise it is easier to buy the new control arm with the ball joint already in it.

the upper balljoints are part of the control arms. it is easier to replace the whole arm with the balljoint already attached. It is only about a half hour job if you take it to a mechanic, but you should get an alignment afterwards, as with all front end work.
