big job. the black plastic cover has to come off, so a lot of stuff comes off to gain access. you may as well change the timing belt and all other components at the same time. i have never done it on a 2.5, but on the 2.3 i also pull the motor mount and the upper radiator hose to gain access. you will have to pull the upper hose anyway, and on a 2.3 the belt tensioners are mondo, it is really difficult to release the tension with just a box wrench, i have a special belt tool that has a 2 foot extender for leverage. lower splash shield has to come off, engine has to be supported, right wheel comes off, yada, yada. again, on the 2.5 it is way easier than on the 2.3

Start by checking the transmission fluid level. If this is good then replace the transmission fluid and filter. If it continues it needs transmission work.
