Check engine is an error. You have to go at a garage to see what is the error code, then correct the problem.
Trouble code P0141 means:O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
Trouble code P0102 means: MAF Sensor Circuit Low Frequency Try replacing the MAF sensor
coolant temperature. temperature is blow thermostat regulating temp, try changing the temperature sensor and you should be ok!!
Disconnect the battery cables and wait about 15 minutes. Some of the OBD II computers will not reset and will have to be coded out and the problem fixed to get rid of the error.

Yes, I had this exact problem with a 2001 Chevy Prizm's stereo console. Usually it can be detected by checking if there is a large draw on the battery when the engine isn't running, but mine was intermittent. One test is the unplug the power connectors to the radio and see if the battery doesn't die. The obvious fix is an after market stereo console.
