You need a code reader to plug in to diagnostic port and erase it. 97 is around the cut off though, not sure if you need OBDI or II. Most shops can do this for you, just make sure the reason it was on is fixed, otherwise it comes back on in 25 miles after a reset.
check engine
just remove the battery cable for about 5min then put it back. that should reset the check engine light.
The service engine or check engine light can be reset with a scan tool or by unhooking the battery. The light will return if the failure that caused the code is not repaired.
After reading the code, and repairing the codes, you reset code with a scan tool.
how do you turn off or reset the check fuel cap light on a 1997 Mazda b 2300 2.3 4 cylinder engine.
Go to Advanced Auto. They should be able to.
Disconnect the negative battery cable for a couple of minutes, then reconnect. The CHECK ENGINE light should disappear if everything is okay.
I think you take off the + batt.cable for about 15 seconds then reconect. Should be reset... Rick D
If it's like the 1997, you just have to discontinue the negative cable from the battery.
You can disconnect the battery for about 30 minutes then reconnect. This may solve the problem. You will need to reset the time etc in the car.
You get a OBD II reader (http://www.nextag.com/obd-ii-code-reader/search-html), which will read the code, tell you what the problem is, and if desired, reset the check engine light. If you don't fix the problem, however, you are not guaranteed that the light will go away permanently.
Try disconnecting the battery for about 10 mins. Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem and have codes cleared
