If you disconnect the positive side of your battery of 20 to 30 seconds the eprom which stores the codes will drop the code. Reconnect and drive vehicle. If light comes back on then you have something wrong with your abs system. Seek a mechanic soon.
If this doesn't work, try putting the vehicle in neutral, engine off, and roll down the driveway. Apply the brakes, and start the vehicle while still in neutral, with the brake pedal pushed down. This cleared the light on my '95 GMC.
What warning light? The only warning lights that can be reset are the Maintenance Required and Check Engine Light. The Maintenance Required light is reset in different ways depending on model and year. The procedure is listed in your owner's manual. Reset the light after performing scheduled maintenance listed in your owner's manual, usually oil/filter change. The Check Engine light is reset by repairing the problem then unhooking the battery for 15 minutes, on a pre-1996 vehicle. On a 1996 and later vehicle it normally requires you use an OBD2 scan tool to reset the light. If you do not repair the problem that set the fault code, the light will just come back on. Your oil pressure warning light means you have low oil pressure, temp warning light means the engine is over heating, alternator light means the charging system has a problem.
You have to read the code, repair the cause of the code, and reset the code with a scan tool.
the warning lights comes on indicating that the timing belt needs to be changed. even once the timing belt is changed, the warning light will stay on until is it reset.
Gm vehicles do not have inertia/reset switches.

A reset Engine Service Light comes on when an issue comes up with in the engine. This light can be reset by a tech or by fixing the problem.
You may be able to reset it after you repair the problem that set the light in the first place, by disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes. That may not work on your 1996. If not, you will need an OBD scan tool to reset the light.
