Disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery, and hook it back up. This should reset the internal cpu, if the problem still exists the light will come back on after about 50-100 miles of drive time.
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
Reset with an OBD2 scan tool, after the repair of whatever triggered the light.

The computer has detected a problem that effects the emissions controls. After having the computer scanned and the problem corrected, they will reset the light. I've had problems with the check engine light on my 98 Bonneville. You have to make sure that the gas cap is put on tightly with a few clicks. If it is loose, that could trigger the 'check engine light' to come on. Hope this helps.
