You will find the fuel pump shut off switch ( inertia switch ) in the front passenger footwell by ( or behind ) the kick panel on a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer
Make a check for any gas leaking or the smell of gas , if none , push the reset button down that has popped up on the top of the switch
Turn your ignition key to the RUN position for a few seconds and then turn your ignition key to the OFF position
