If you have fixed the problem, the light should go off I believe after 10 Ignition cycles, otherwise you can just disconnect the battery, even though I don't recommend it, the right thing to do is to have a scan tool shut it off.
The service engine or check engine light can be reset with a scan tool or by unhooking the battery. The light will return if the failure that caused the code is not repaired.
To reset the service engine light on a 1997 Suzuki Sidekick first turn off the car. Unplug the battery of at least 5 seconds and then plug the battery. The computer will now be reset.
You can disconnect the neg. battery cable but you also reset everything radio, clock etc.
disconect battery replace item that the SES is telling u to replace use an OBDII tool and reset that way
With an OBD2 scan tool. Most big auto parts stores will do this for free.
check engine
If you are sure that the all system is fine and does not need any service, you can reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for about 5-10 minutes. Or you can use of error code readers.
If you have fixed the problem, it will likely reset itself after about 20 engine starts. Also, the local oil change/inspection station may do it for free. It takes a diagnostic reader to do it.
You need an OBD2 code reader. Bear in mind that reseting the engine light won't do you any good if you haven't corrected the problem that triggered it in the first place.
the fastest way is to disconnect the battery ground wire at the battery for about 10 seconds
Try disconnecting battery for about 10 mins. or have vehicle scanned to determine problem or clear codes
just remove the battery cable for about 5min then put it back. that should reset the check engine light.
