On the back of the caliper (side towards the center of the car) locate the hex screw that is behind the piston. Remove the screw. There is an adjustment gear which pulls the piston back. Use an Allen key, turning counter-clockwise to pull the piston back.
on the back of the caliper there is 2 14mm bolts one is just a plug and inside is a 4mm hex key using a small mirror you can see this then turning one way will back it off the other will tighten it to adjust your brakes tighten until the pads become tight and back off 1/3 of a turn should be good be sure to puy on two wheel nuts when doing this to hold the rotor in place
It's very easy. The only trick is to use a hex key to retract the piston. DO NOT try to just squeeze the piston back! Here's a couple links with pictures. http://www.miata.net/garage/brakepad.html http://werkz.com/feature.php?id=37
Will a 1992 mazda miata hardtop fit a 2000 mazda miata?
Like any other car, open the brake fluid cylinder and use a c-clamp or brake caliper tool to push it back. The rear pads are exactly the same as the front pads, with one exception: There is a small, brass 10mm bolt behind the piston. It comes off very easily, and simply protects a small, 4mm Allen bolt. Loosen the Allen bolt and it will allow you to retract the piston. Once your new pads are in place, you can lightly tighetn the Allen bolt back in and replace the brass protector bolt.
yes, the Mazda miata is rear wheel drive
I would suggest the Mazda Miata dealership site which is www.mmmiata.com, another site to try for Mazda Miata parts is www.autopartsdeal.com/Mazda/Miata/parts.html. For used parts you can try www.autoguide.net

You can rent a mazda miata from Zilok ( US.Zilok.com )
Front or rear? Front is the same as most cars. Remove the caliper carrier, slide the carrier and caliper off the rotor, the old rotor just about falls off in your hand, use just about anything at hand to push the pads apart just a little, put on the new rotor, bolt the carrier/caliper back on. If you're replacing the pads at the same time, take one caliper bolt/pin out first and then pivot the caliper away from the pads. Then slide the caliper off the other bolt/pin. Then remove the carrier if necessary. The rear rotors are a touch different because the Miata uses a very unique parking brake set-up on the rear calipers. A 14 mm headed bolt on the back of the rear caliper has to be removed and a 4 mm Allen wrench or socket is used to release the parking brake mechanism before the caliper piston can be depressed. It is NOT the usual "turn the piston as you push on it" design that is most commonly used these days.
