I would try using an online translation website, such as www.freetranslation.com. The German grammar won't be excellent, but it will get your point across. If you want it to be really accurate, you would have to pay a German translator or find a fluent German speaker.
In German, an informal letter or email is generally begun with Liebe (for females) or Lieber (for males).
A formal letter or email is generally begun with the phrase Sehr geehrte (for females) or Sehr geehrter (for males).
