Most phones you can click 'OK' when you take the picture. Otherwise, click options when you open the picture, and then send via text message. However some pictures (i.e. downloaded ones) will have a lock on them which does not enable you to send them

On mine you go on the Picture, choose options and then "Send as Picture Message".
You can. The picture has to be a jpg. Send it to YOURNUMBER@vmpix.com as an attachment. When you get the message, choose "options" for the message and scroll down. "Save Picture" will be one of the options. When you save the picture to your phone, you can use it as a wallpaper or w/e. Don't freak if the picture doesn't display correctly when viewing the message. It'll be okay once saved to your phone. Picture message rates apply.
Yes, you do need Wi-Fi in order to send a picture message, and receive them. Most of the smartphones have the Wi-Fi built right into them so you should not have to worry about that.
