You want to get to the "internet Options" dialog box. Depending on which version of Internet Explorer you have installed and your operating system (Windows 7, Vista, XP), there could be some variation in navigating to it. In most cases, open IE, select "Tools" > "Internet Options".
If you are unable to locate it there, try one of the following:
(in Windows XP) "Start" > "Settings" > "Control Panel" > "Internet Options".
(in Windows 7 or Vista) "Start" > "Control Panel" > "Network and Internet" > "Internet Options"
Once in the "Internet Options" dialog box, select the "Programs" tab. Under the "Programs" tab, there will be a section labeled "Default web browser" about half way down the dialog box. Click the button "Make default" to the right of that section. If this button is greyed out (not able to click it), this means IE is already the default browser.

∙ 14y agoIf you are looking to set Google as your default search browser, open up internet explorer and click on tools, then internet options and a new screen will open, and the first box says homepage. Type in www.google.com and it will become your default browser. Also, you can change it from "Preferences" in the Tools menu.
