Move the crankshaft back and forth a little until the distributor drops. It should drop under it's own weight. Realign timing marks to TDC then double check distributor position.
on this old distributor there is a cap that holds the wires in place on the distributor. Is there a trick to remove top cap?
Loosen the bolt holding the distributor in place, and turn the distributor counter clockwise. If it bucks the starter, it is too far advanced.
it only goes on one way. as long as you havent moved your distributor you are fine. place the cap on the distributor body and rotate the cap until it sits in the little grooves made for it. Should be hel in place by 2 small screws in side the distributor cap
