You cannot set the timing as it is all under computer control.
The timing is controlled by the computer. Cannot check timing. Suspect timing is off, cam sensor, crank sensor, worn timing chain, bad pcm.
The engine timing is totally computer controlled these days. No more turning the distributor, chalking the crank balancer & the strobing light show ;) You don't, its electronic!
There is no timing belt on the Windstar engine - it is equipped with a timing chain, which requires no routine maintenance. Also, engine timing is controlled by the engine / powertrain computer module. No user intervention required (or even possible).
The 3.8 liter V6 engine in a 2003 Ford Windstar has a timing CHAIN
On a 1998 Ford Windstar : The 3.8 liter V6 engine ( and the 3.0 ) has a timing CHAIN
The Windstar's 3.8l engine uses a timing chain
how do you set timing on 110cc engine
As far as I know all the engine sizes used in a Ford Windstar since the first model year ( 1995 ) have used a timing CHAIN
You MUST have a engine scanner to set the timing. The timing on that engine is computer controlled.
Engine timing
You can set the base timing by ear, But to be able to get the check engine light to go out and to set the timing were it is supose to be requires a engine scanner. The computer controlls the timing on that year engine.
The Windstar engines all use a timing CHAIN - meaning you do not have to change as a part of regular maintenance. You shouldn't have to change a timing chain unless there a significant engine failure.
With a timing light.
