The timing mark is on the crank pulley, a little " V " cut. It gets aligned with the 8 degree BTDC mark on the degree scale just above the crank pulley on the timing belt cover. Use an induction timing light hooked up to the #1 spark plug wire (front of engine) and the battery. Painting the timing marks white helps to see. I use white out. Works good.
You don't, it is controlled by the ECM.
It isn't adjustable. It is controled by the computer
e is for the exaust stroke......i is for ignition stroke......i is the one you are looking for

Turn the distributer to the right very slightly
Ignition timing is set on a 1989 Acura Integra by setting the distributor to the appropriate angle. When set at the factory recommended angle the car will turn over with no problems.
First you need a timing light which I assume you have. There is a notch on crank pulley, put a dab of white paint on it. Connect timing light, if off loosen bolt for distributor and adjust accordingly.Manual states 8 degrees BTDC @ 800 RPM. This is also assuming that all other components are in good working condition, timing belt etc.
Locate the distributor and mark where timing is set at. Loosen the 3 bolts holding the distributor in place. Disconnect any wiring. Pull off the o-ring and install the new one.
How do you set the timing for an 1989 Chevrolet G20 van - 350 cu. in. with tbi?
Assuming a 1.6L engine, timing is generally controlled by the timing belt. Can adjust the timing by loosening the front lower bolt on the distributor and then rotating the distributor clockwise or counter clockwise. Use a timing light to set timing correctly. I believe it is 10 BTDC
Follow the directions on the emissions label under the hood of your car, it will tell you what to set the timing at and what connectors to disconnect to set the timing.
I think that after you put on the timing belt alighned properly, that your distrib. makes up the diff. when you adjust it. Jim

HI, There are definitely a timing belt and a water pump on the engine. The timing belt is behind the cover that is on the front of the engine and when there you will also find the timing belt tensioner, they come as a set when you purchase them. The water pump is also at the front of the engine and sits at the left of the timing belt cover as you look at the engine, the pump is driven by the belt, you can't miss it. Happy repairing and good luck.Steve H.
