for the people trying to set the engine timing on the 2.0 ZETEC engine, note that there are no readily visible no timing marks used to set timing. Ford did include some notches on the lower crank pulley, but they are hard to see and harder to use accurately when setting the timing. Instead, it is easier to bring number one cylinder to top dead center by use of a crankshaft locking tool or other method. Remove the valve cover and the timing belt cover. You will need a straight flat bar to lock cams in place. The cams have slots on the ends of them opposite the cam pulleys. The flat bar will slip between the slots and hold them in place.
previous Answerfor the people trying to set 2.0 eng timing first of all no timing marks to set timing you bring no.one cly to top dead center r&r valve cover you need a straight flat bar to lock cams in line across back of cams second you need to lock crank shaft by installing a plug to lock crank plug hole is below exhaust manifold in rear of engineyou now are in time

Read the how-to. Link is in the 'related links' section.
the ford escort zx2 2.0 dohc don't have one it's equipped with vct(variable valve timing) to replace it
For a 2003 Ford Escort ZX2 : The 2.0 litre DOHC four cylinder engine has a ( timing BELT ) According to the scheduled maintenance guide ( replace at 120,000 miles )
Follow the link below (related links) for a how-to.
I need a diagram to replace the serpentine belt on my 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 DOHC. Where do I go to find this diagram specific to my car?
The 2.0 Liter DOHC with VIN # 3 has a timing belt and requires replacement at 120,000 miles. This is not an interference engine.
Yes , according to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etc. ) both the SOHC and DOHC 2.0 liter engines used in the 1999 Ford Escort are interference engines EDIT -- the DOHC engine used in the escort zx2 is a non-interference engine. The Gates website and any other which mention the zx2 as an interference engine are wrong
Yes!
i need to find timing on my 2.0 zx2 z tech eng
no no no the zetec 2.0 dohc has vct it is variable valve timing in which that's why zx2's don't have egr valve and pretty much at a certain rpm the exhaust cam retards timing for a bit of performance and cleaner emissions
2.0 liter DOHC - Zetec engine
A Ford with a 2.0L 4 cylinder SOHC engine is NOT an interference engine
Go to www.TeamZX2.com in the knowledge base section there is a timing how to that will help...
