Hey there, I used to work at an aquarium for a few years so ill help u out the best I can, and this answer is probably gonna be long. Well first u need a good sized tank that's gonna be enough room for ur fish to live a happy life. You can nver go too large and if its money that's the worry u can always keep a look out for tanks on eBay, pawnshop or the classifieds, they do come up occasionaly. U want a sturdy wooden stand (its better off to get a new one unless u can find one that is near new), Polystyrene Foam cut to the base size of ur new tank. This is placed in between the tank and the stand. This prevents the base from cracking. If the base cracks then u might as well start from square one and get another new tank coz it will cost too much to fix. You need gravel, the type that is safe for aquariums. A good filtering sytem, the cheapest but reasonably effective way to do that would be to get a corner filter and with that ull need filter wool and activated charcoal. You will also need air hose, always get more then what u will need. An air pump, make sure u get a good quality one like aqua-one brand. A air adjuster that fits on ur air hose to adjust air levels properly. A PH test kit would be good if u don't already have one, and nets and things like that. Oh and i just remembered, always get cover glasses for ur tank coz that last thing u want is a dead fish on the carpet. Heater is optional, U don't really need one but u can have one if u are planning to upgrade to a tropical tank later on... most goldfish can handle being at warmer temperatures upto 25degrees. Live plants are always good, make sure u get them from an aquarium not from the local river or former pond. Maybe a couple of rocks or driftwood to make it look pretty and make ur fish feel more at home. Never put shells from the sea in ur tank. It will throw the PH off and most likely turn ur tank green. You also need chemicals for your fish to live happy. You will need chorine neutraliser AND conditioner. If ur gonna go all out and spend a wad of cash u might as well get some multi cure too just incase ur fish hits the sick button on u after u change them over. And im pretty sure that's it. Lights ontop are optional you don't have to have them, but if u don't get them, don't think that putting ur tank near a windo to get sun is gonna do them any good coz It will turn the water green with sunlight on it. And be careful of virbrations and stuff like that with a tank, coz fish can get pretty stressed out in a tank.So basically ur shopping list is (if u have nothing what so ever)-Tank w/Coverglasses-Stand-Polystyrene foam-Corner filter-Filter wool-Activated charcoal-Air pump-Air hose-Air flow adjustment-PH test kit-Heater (optional, but if u get it get a thermometer too)-Plants, Ornaments, Driftwood-Chorine neuraliser and Conditioner-Multi cureAnd fish food if u don't have it.

To transfir fish, this is how u do it. 1) set up ur tank, make sure u wash the gravel thouraghly and wipe inside of the tank down before adding water. Never use anything with chemical residue on it. Add water, chemicals. Do a PH test, capture your fish and place them into clean plastic bags or the best way is those really big click zip bags that are about the size of an a4 sheet of paper. Place sealed bad ontop of tank water and let the bag with fish sit there for at least 20 minutes (u can do multiple at a time if there is enough room) And after that relese them and bobs ur uncle!

Well there we go, If u have any other questions I am more than happy to help. Message me on www.myspace.com/wahbeagleHave a good one mate! Catch

How do you set up a 3 gallon goldfish tank?

You cant. Goldfish need much bigger tanks. 20-30 gallons. I bought 2 goldfish when I was new to aquarium hobby and put them in a 5 Gallon tank. The first one died in just one and a half day. The other one died just hours after the first one :( So if I were you, I would get a bigger tank.

How big can goldfish grow if they are free in the wild?

Yes, the rate at which a goldfish grows, and its overall size, is often partially determined by its environment. This is why pond goldfish are considerably larger than aquarium goldfish, and why goldfish that are cramped-up in bowls stay relatively small. If you want your goldfish to grow into large healthy fish you'll buy them a large aquarium or pond to live in.

How do you quarantine newly purchased ranchu goldfish?

Setup a 10-20 gallon tank (no gravel or ornaments are needed) fill it with water, condition it using a de-chlorinator. Purchase an aerator and a simple sponge filter- set these both up in the tank and have them running for a good 72 hours before adding your goldfish. Acclimate the goldfish by adding a few cups of tank water to the water the fish is in currently. Once the fish is acclimated, you can then add it to the quarantine tank. There the fish will live for the next 2-4 weeks as you meticulously check it for any signs of disease. It is also, just as a precaution (especially if you plan to add this fish in with your goldfish collection), recommended to treat the fish for flukes using an antiparasitic medication and by raising the salt concentration in the tank to .3%.

When can you safely transfer goldfish to a new tank?

I bought my fish tank on the Sunday and then got home added the water and the aquarium conditioner and left over night so ruffle about 12-15hours and then bought the Goldfish the next day and gradually added water to the bag the fish come in every 5-10mins so they get used to your tank/pond water. the man in the fish shop said to me i should have waited to leave the water in the tank to settle for 4-5days before adding fish but mine are ok so as long as you have made sure you have filters running and have cleaned the tank and added your conditioner to the water, your goldfish should be fine:) don't feed to much, i do mine every other day, but like i would give them couple of pellets now and again they like that

Can you put two algae eaters in the same tank?

It is possible for the two to live together, though most clawed frogs are tropical in nature they can withstand the colder water of goldfish. Some frogs get rather large in size and will outgrow most of the smaller goldfish tanks. There is an African dwarf version of the clawed frog that stays rather small however. Also, be prepared for the frog to eat any offspring of the goldfish. Second view: We have a small outdoor pond, and shortly after stocking it with some fairly young goldfish, we had a red-legged pond frog show up. They all get along fine and of course a couple of the goldfish are now 5-6" long. Morning feeding they are all so active, hungry and a great way to start the day. Don't know if we have had babies yet or not, because I just found out what to look for, but the frog just jumps from rock to rock and watches the fish, then goes hunting for his insects.

Why do goldfish die with cold water?

Goldfish die in cold water because they are not used to the water tempurture. But if you put the fish in a bag and set the bagin the cold water the water in the bag and in the tank will be come the same tempurture.

My son just brought a goldfish home from camp this afternoon but we do not have a tank so how soon do we have to get the correct set-up for this poor fish to have a chance?

4-8 hours in the sealed bag. Goldfish seem to live in any enviornment, for example you can freeze the bag with the fish in it, thaw it and wha-la, you still have a Goldfish (Yes this is true). Goto Walmart, get the $6 fish bowl.

When does the sun rise and set in the pond habitat?

You'll need to be more specific about what you mean by "pond habitat".

What food should a baby goldfish eat?

In the wild they eat tiny (microscopic) creatures and algaes. As they get larger they eat larger creatures and algaes. Specially designed foods are available in the better pet shops to feed fish fry.they eat gold fish food need to make the flacks small enough for them but be sure they are not to small if the food sinks to the bottom it will create pneaumonia.

How should you set up your goldfish tank?

A leaflet should have come with your tank about how to set it up and the equipment you will need but here is how i set up mine....... put ur tank away from direct sunlight or sound systems, your tank needs to be near plug sockets. 1.Thouroughly clean the gravel, ornaments and sindes of your tank with warm water, (DO NOT USE SOAP) 2.set up your filter and air stone in the tank. 3. dose water with nitrate killing stuff that you can usually buy in all pet shops 4. add the water carefully as not to move the gravel at the bottom 5.leave your tank for about a week to settle before adding any fish 6. buy one or two little fish to see if they survive, if they are ok you can start to any other fish. HOPE THIS HELPED (these were the intructions that came with my tank, i did not make this up)
