Don't take chances with your life, your safety. Let a mechanic do it properly. Brakes are something you really don't want to do yourself unless you are a mechanic and you know how to install them. Removing them is easy. Installing them takes skill, knowledge and the right tools. I was going to save myself some money removing and installing front disc brakes on my 1997 Toyota Camry. Looked at book in auto parts store. Looked simple enough. It took me three hours to do it. I did not have the right tools. The car almost fell off the jack as I strained to loosen caliper mounting bolts. I could have been killed, lying beneath the car. When I completed it, I drove it around the neighborhood. It seemed ok, had to pump the brakes, thinking just to get brake fluid going into caliper. For 3 days, I kept working the brakes, they would not brake properly. I took it to a mechanic. I had removed hardware kit. Those metal shims, spacers that seemed so insignificant. I did not install them back in. I did not see where they fit in. How could they be needed when stopping a 2 ton vehicle at high speed? They were needed. My brake pads were cracking under the stress of braking, because the disc brake pads were not braking evenly. LET A MECHANIC DO IT!!!
