If you are considering breeding your cat and she is not a purebred of a breed in which kittens are in high demand, it is a good idea to arrange homes for up to eight kittens before you breed her. Female humans are interested in mating at any time during their cycle. With cats it is different. Depending on the disposition of your individual cat, she may be friendly or aggressive towards the tomcat when she is not on heat. When a cat goes into heat it is generally obvious. You will see a slightly bloodstained discharge of mucus from her vagina and she will show signs of being in heat. She will call for a mate with loud wails, non-stop, and probably roll on the floor. Some cats spray. If you want kittens, this is the time to introduce her to the cat. Serious breeders, who do not want their cats knocked around, place the cats into large cages (outdoor runs usually) with a chicken-wire fence separating the male and female. When they are sure that the female will receive the male well they place them in the same cage. Cats can take care of things themselves, but it is not a good idea to leave the male and female in the same cage unattended. The chances of your cat becoming pregnant are fairly good if there is nothing wrong with her reproductive system.

Can pregnancy occur when a cat is in heat but unwilling?

Pregnancy can only occur if the cat courted with a male.. It could occur even if the cat was unwilling, but I'm pretty sure if you keep your cat indoors, and watch it when you let it outside, will it avoid pregnancy. Unless you do want kittens.
