If there is a slot in the pully, you stick something in the slot that is long enough so that it will, when the pully turns rest against some non breakable component on the vehicle and stop the pully from turning.

If you are trying to get the crankshaft pully off, you will usually need to access the point where the transmission connects to the engine flywheel. You then need to stick something strong, like the flat edge of a prybar into the flywheel to keep it from turning while you put pressure on the crankshaft pully bolt. This usually requires help from another individual. It is very important that what you use to hold the flywheel in place is strong enough to keep the flywheel from turning without breaking. If you break it off in the flywheel when turning it, there is a good chance that you will find yourself removing the transmission to get whatever broke off out. If it breaks off and you don't remove it, it will damange your transmission.

If you have an impact wrench with an air compressor, this can probably be done much more easily as long as your impact wrench is strong enough to break the bolt free and you can fit it onto the bolt.

How to change water-pump on a 1994 Pontiac grand am 3.1L?

The water pump is behind the smooth pulley up top closest to the front of the car.1) Warm engine fully.2) Stop engine.3) Drain coolant.4) Slightly loosen water pump pulley bolts. If necessary, us a long open-end wrench on one bolt (2 mm larger than correct size) to hold the pulley from turning while using a correctly fitting 6-point socket to loosen another bolt.5) Loosen the belt tensioner and remove the belt.6) Unbolt and remove the water pump.7) Use scotch-brite to remove any old gasket material.8) Position new pump and gasket in place and install the (five?) bolts.9) Position pulley in place and snug up four bolts.10) Reinstall belt and tighten pulley bolts fully.11) Fill cooling system. You should use a vacuum type fill tool if available, otherwise be sure to remember to open the bleeders.

Do you need a bowpress to adjust draw weight on a pse stinger?

Just loosen the limb bolts. Up to 10 turns back from full stop on their new models. Make sure you have the 2012 or newer before turning it back that far though :)

Why would a 2001 ford escort still squeak in idle and some while driving and stop when turning after replacing all belts water pump and pulleys?

check tensioner pulley and idler pulley if equipped.

Why does your lawnmower make a rasping sound when the blade stops?

What you are probably hearing is the little "brake pad" (for lack of a better term) that the blade pulley rubs against to stop it from turning. The belt always turns. So without something to keep the blades from turning they would never stop.

How do you change the air con belt on a Nissan 300zx?

AnswerOn a Z-31 you first remove the power steering belt. It's easiest to do this with an open end wrench as the adjustment stop bolt is a little hard to get to. First loosen the stop bolt located to the lower right of the power steering pump then you can use a deep well socket to loosen up the tension on the belt and remove it. Then loosen the bolt in the center of the idler pulley with the AC belt on it. Above this pulley is a bolt that you loosen to relieve the tension. Remove the tension and the ac belt will come off the pulleys. Simply pull the belt around the fan blade and reverse to reinstall and set tension an belts and that's it.... Chuck

How do you release the automatic tensioner to change the serpentine belt on a 1991 Chevy S-10 4.3 liter V-6 engine?

i had the same exact vehicle. you don't release the tensioner, you'll have to take the presure off with a ratchet and socket. on the front of the tensioner pulley there is an arrow that has "loosen" next to it . get a socket that fits on the bolt in the middle of the pulley. ratchet the pulley towards the loosen side. there will be alot of tension so be careful. the belt will loosen when you turn it. slip the belt off the pulley and very slowly release the pressure off. it will pull against you alot but it will stop. just reverse this when putting the belt back on. also try to not take all the belt off if you don't have to, this will help w/putting the belt back on.

How do you replace serpentine belts on 1999 infiniti g20?

You must first do the power steering pulley to release tension. It's the pulley close to the fire wall. To release tension you need to jack the right side of the car up. Take the covers off by the right wheel. Power steering pulley will have three bolts to undo 1 is on the bottom in back of the pulley other 2 you can get on top. Just look really close to the pulley and you will see the grove where the pulley can move. None of the bolts need to come all the way out. The long bolt on top is what you use to make the belt tight. The second belt is easy to change. You can do everything on top. Adjust 2 bolts at the alternator. One is long that's to make the belt tight one is small to adjust it and your on your way. If you have problems with the first pulley stop and take a look at the second one and it will give you a good idle. It looks like the first one but smaller.

How do you stop the world from turning?

you can not

How is the fan clutch changed on a 98 f150 with a 4.6l?

With the proper hand tools, this can be done without removing the radiator. One must be patient and being a contortionist would help. The fan cowl can be release so as to get access and the fan turned periodically to position the fasteners. Do not release the fan belt as you can use it to hold fan pulley in place while loosening fasteners. Push on belt when trying to loosen faster to stop pulley from turning. Bump the starter to turn to get access to the next fastener. Remove coil wire to prevent firing or starting engine.
