Crutchfield sells speakers, etc - as a part of their service - they offer some step by step instructions with pictures.

According to the 1998 Ford Ranger Owner Guide : The fuel pump shut off switch ( inertia switch ) is located in the front passenger foot well , behind the kick panel * the kick panel is the interior trim panel , in front of the front door , beside the passengers feet

On a 1998 Ford Ranger : Open the drivers door and in the drivers end of the dash you will see the removable plastic fuse panel cover
The 1998 Ford Ranger door panel has eight retaining clips. Pry outward on each retaining clip. Remove the two door handle screws.

On a 1998 Ford Ranger : In the fuse panel in the drivers end of the dash : ( mini fuse # 8 is a 10 amp fuse for the right headlamp and fog lamp relay )
Its in front of the driver side front tire. Take the tire off in the front of the wheel well theres a panel remove the panel to get to the battery.
