Once you get past all of the other parts and get to the locking plate, the plate itself needs to be pushed back either with a special tool or simply some other person pushing it back. The latter option requires fairly strong fingers. Once the plate is pushed back a hog ring is revealed that must be removed (possible with a small flathead) so the locking plate can slide off.

Cannot get locking plate ring back in place on 94 gmc steering wheel don't know the order it goes underneath the locking plate?

If you are asking about the small circlip that holds the locking plate down, it goes on top of the locking plate. There should be a spring on top of the turn signal cam then the locking plate goes on top of that. A special locking plate depressor is required to hold the locking plate down, then the circlip holds the locking plate in place when the depressor tool is removed. Hope that makes sense and works for you.

How do you replace parts in a loose and sloppy steering in a 1984 Chevy truck?

Most of the time it is the bushing in the top of the column. .Pull the steering wheel off, pull the locking plate for the steering wheel, pull the blinker assembly, then you will come to a stiff spring that preloads the bushing under it.....That bushing, and spring need to be replaced, and you have cured your problem. . . . .

How do you replace ignition switch on 1986 camaro?

Remove the dress plate under the steering column. There is a clip there for the shift indicator, if you shift on the column. There are two nuts on studs, one on each side of the column, remove these nuts, and the steering column will drop down. The switch is on top of the column just lower then the fastening bracket. Unplug the wiring, remove the screws that retain the switch, install new one and adjust. Put everything back together.

You don't need the $114 Lock Plate compression tool from some of the specialty tool suppliers. The $13 tool from Advance Auto Parts works just fine. Be sure to get the one that says for vehicles without airbags. The main bolt screws into the steering shaft and performs the function of the star screw - locking the telescoping shaft in place.

How to remove ignition key cylinder on a 1993 fleetwood brougham?

First I'll say is that if you are not a well seasoned tech, not an easy task to perform. Basically its positioned right below the signal switch. So if you can reach down that far into the steering column, there it is. Depress the locking plate and remove.
