If it's the compressor, the telltale signs are usually pretty obvious. It won't cycle, or you'll hear strange noises coming from the compressor, or it'll smoke.
PLease have the codes read with a scanner and that will point you in the correct direction. If i was to hazard a guess i would say the Vehicle Speed Sensor or circuit has gone bad.
Auto Zone will check your alternator for free...
It is aturbine\speed sensor malfunction. It usually means that this speed sensor has gone bad. Good luck.
Could be your ac compressor is going or gone, probably gone.

It's loose. Find the tensioner, and adjust it.
Pull panel off the back hatch, there are a couple of screws that hold the wiper on as well as power and maybe a ground wire. Rear wipers have gone out in every explorer I've owned eventually took mine off and bondo'd it.

The reverse may have gone out in your transmission. It can gradually go out, or go out all at once. The only way to know for sure, is to schedule an appointment with a mechanic. I own a 2006 Ford Explorer XLT with around 100k miles (so far I've had no problems...). Best of luck to you though. Hopefully it's an easy/inexpensive fix.
insert a quick disconnect tool into the coupler , the same tool you would use to disconnect fuel lines.
compressor is two stage and the 1st stage has gone out and the compressor needs to be replaced.
