You need to open the door panel, unplug the motor from the connector, apply power and a ground wire to the contacts on the motor side of the connector. You make the motor go up or down by just switching the 2 wires back and forth between the 2 contacts inside the connector, If the motor runs, the switch is bad.
Tell me if just one window or all of them quit working
by the dispacement
no he is dead no he is dead
if the vehicle won't start.
check the engine block casting number
Use a test light to see if the motor is getting power. If it is then motor is bad. If it is not getting power "jump" the wires on the switch to see if window will operate, is so switch is bad
remove switch from where it is mounted using a wire , bridge the connections.if switch is bad, it will work the motor while bridged
It's the switch because the motor is getting power to go up but not down.
If the window won't go up from only one switch it is most likely that switch. If it won't go up from the driver controls or the control on that window's door, then you probably have a problem with the window motor.
The yellow with green wire goes from the switch to the relay which is to the right of the speaker and then from the replay it changes to yellow and goes to the motor.
how do you change a window motor on a 93 aerostar or can you please tell me how to get the windows down without the motor... my e-mail is snakespittbulls@yahoo.com
Unless you're into wasting money by just throwing parts at it, the first step to any repair is diagnosis. Clearly, something isn't working - exactly what, you haven't told us, but presumably it results in your power window not working. Assuming the other power window works (since we don't know that, either), then you're looking at three likely culprits - a bad window motor, a bad switch, or faulty wiring. Start by testing the switch to see if it's getting power and relaying power when it's depressed. If it's not, then replace the switch. If it is, then move on to the electrical contacts at the motor, and see if they're getting power. If they are, then you need to test your window motor, and that's probably your culprit. If you're not getting power at the motor, then you need to trace the wiring between the motor and the switch, and find any breaks or shorts in the wiring. If your problem with the window is something else, then you need to tell us what. Kinda difficult to tell you how to fix something without knowing what the problem is.
there will be a separate heated windshield switch below the window lock switch.
Buy a chilton's or haynes maintenance manual. They tell you everything. I had to replace my drivers side window motor. Not too hard.
remove the door handle, then the interior door panel. Get the window up and down switch and then begin testing it to see if you are getting current to the switch, and from the switch to the electric motor that drives the window up and down. If you can bypass the switch and jump 12 volts past the switch, and the morot works and the window moves, then it's the switch. If you bypass the switch and the motor does not operate the window, then the motor is probably bad. More than likey it is the switch........but these are ways to tell. You will need a multimeter to check voltage levels and a jumper wire to bypass the switch. You should buy a door panel removal tool too. It will save you money before you bust the door panel trying to pull it off. It slips behind the door panel and pops the plastic screws that hold the door panel in place. And mkae sure you look all around the door panel for hidden screws. Designers spend hours trying to hide them from sight.
2 possibilities. The drive motor is going bad and needs to be replaced or the relay is going bad. The motor is in the tailgate and you can go back and listen to it as someone tries to move the window. Also try pushing in the direction of travel. This will tell you if the motor is bad. If not then the relay is behind the passanger seat on the left I think. You can go somewhere quiet and cycle the switch. Listen for the relay. Also if the window works ok using the key in the rear door then the only other thing is the switch or a connection between the switch and the relay.
can someone please tell how to get the door panel off to replace the window motor to my cadillac coupe deville
