Depending on the living conditions of a goldfish, it's actually quite difficult to age the fish. They can grow quite large if housed correctly, and in some cases, fish that are several years younger than another fish in the tank can appear older due to it's larger size.

Size is a good indicator of age; basically the bigger the older. If you know the exact species and their growth rates and sizes, you might be able to tell their age to within a month or two. For some types, other physical changes can give hints as to how far through their lifespan the fish is (for example, a flounder's eyes move gradually; if they are still on opposite sides of the body the fish is fairly young).

You cannot tell how old they are but you can tell if they are old or not but checking their back. If it is bent curved, it is old.
