First you should confront your most sensative, overprotective parent... most likely your mother. tell her easily. " mom i want to be who i want to be. you just gotta accept it. i am emo." if your mom dosent accept that DO NOT BREAK OUT AND CRY... tell her the next few days " mom i know you do not accept me for who i am but you have to get used to it. i am the one who controls my life and how i look." then leave. i have a feeling she will be touched and let you... next confront your father... just tell him "dad i know you will not like who i am going to be but you have to get used to it i control my life and i am the only one who can!"

ANSWER:Above anything else, be honest with them and yourself as well. They are parents, not privy to the ever changing trends of youth. If you are to the point of cutting or are suicidal, I would suggest that you tell them, or at least get help somewhere. For generations, people of your age are trying so hard to fit in, they will do what they think will make them equal to their peers or friends. If its who you truly are, without the influence of peer pressure, then you and your parents have to acknowledge it and deal with it accordingly. Keep in mind that being emo is a choice. Cutting is a choice but is also a disease. Do some research on the diseases that can be transmitted by bloodborn pathogens before you cut or cut with someone else. Get it right.Emo is not a type of person. Emo is a type of music and clothing. If you call yourself emo, you need to get a life. Stereotypes are annoying. First of all, I say that you can call yourself whatever you want. My parents know that I'm different. I don't listen to the typical music or dress like everyone else. If you changed-and I know you did bcause no 2 yrs old is 'emo'-then your parents will have noticed and they know something's up-even if they don't know what exactly. My parents don't talk to me about it but if your parents notice and ask you; then say, "I just fit into this certain crowd of people-emo I think." And if they consider taking you to a shrink, then go, but tell them they're wasting money.
