If texting from the US or Canada, add: 011 52 1 to the beginning of the number.
If texting from most other countries, add 00 52 1 to the beginning of the number.
The extra 1 is required after the 52. It is an extra digit required for calling or texting to Mexican cell phones.
If someone gives you a Mexican cell phone number, such as 9999-786-543
From the US or Canada: 011 52 1 999 9786 543
From most other countries: 00 52 1 999 9786 543
Here's what the digits mean:
--011 (international access code) from the US or Canada.
--From most other countries, use 00.
--52 ( country code for Mexico)
--1 (extra digit required for calling or texting to Mexican cell phones
--Area code ( they could be two or three numbers, for instance, Mexico City code is 55, Cancun is 998, Acapulco is 744, etc. )
--Local number ( they could be seven or eight, if the area code is two digit, then the local number will be an eight digit number, if area code is three digit, then the local number will be a seven digit number)
Area code + Local numbre should always be a ten digit number.
You may see a cell phone number written in Mexico as 044-999-9786-543.
In that case, remove the 044 . The 044 is an access code used within Mexico only.
I have verified that this format works for both Verizon and TMobile when sending from the US: 011 52 1 999 9786 543. In both cases the message was received in Mexico.
You need to first have the US number correctly programmed into your phone. First type the + symbol into your phone then the country code which is 1. So you will dial +1 the area code then the phone number.
First you need the Mexican mobile number, which will be something like
+52 1 (area code) (number)
The area code is two digits for the big cities (Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey), or three digits anywhere else. The area code and number will add up to a total of ten digits. You must insert the prefix '1' in between the country code +52 and the area code, to identify it as a mobile number.
Depending on your phone, you may be able to store the number in international format, as shown above, or you may need to replace the plus sign with the international access prefix 011 (used for international calls from the USA, Canada, etc.).
ONE MUST FIRST DIAL THE COUNTRY CODE FOR MEXICO, THEN THE NUMBER.
