its very complicated but there are lots of screws an bolts that ya gotta loosen to do it. its really hard to explain but you gotta mess with it a bunch. start undoing things an experiment to figure it out. start with the bolts on the fan side there is one long one an it is key to the process. its about 5-6.5 inches long an i know that even when you do figure it out it will be a pain to tighten anyway since its in such a weird position you cant really get leverage on it to tighten. i know this don look like much help but its something you gotta be shown it don't work to be told
Loosen up the power steering pump and pull on pump till belt is tight.
Should have an automatic belt tensioner -perhaps it is defective I don't think there is a belt tensioner. Belt tension is adjusted at the power steering pump bracket and idler pulley assembly.
remove old belt install new belt you're welcome
The power steering pump is located on the front of the engine. The uppermost pump connected to the serpentine belt.
Cherokee 4.0 Serpentine Belt TensionerThis engine does not have an tensioner for the serpentine belt. Only the 5.2 liter and 5.9 liter engines have a tensioner. The adjustment is at the power steering pump. Just loosen the power steering pump rear mounting bolts, pivot bolt and lock nut and then loosen the power steering pump adjusting bolt. Slip the belt on and tighten the adjusting bolt until you can push the belt in about one inch midway between the A/C and alternator pulleys. Then tighten the lock nut, pivot bolt and mounting bolts and that's it.
The ajustment bolt for the belt is under the power steering pump.
Is this a single belt or a serpentine belt system, if so look for belt tension idler pulley and loose belt, or single belt then you will need to loose and release tension on the power steering pump assembly.
it is under the power steering pump attached to the bracket that holds the pump.
If it is a 4.0, loosen the two rear steering pump mounting bolts, the upper pivot bolt, and the locknut and the adjusting bolt located on the bottom of the unit. Push the steering unit in and remove the old belt. Remember how it was routed. Replace with the new belt. Pull the steering pump back and tighten the adjusting bolt for tension. Then tighten the other bolts.
it is adjusted throught the power steering pump loosen the adjuster bolts remove belt and reverse
there is only one serp. belt if the belt is cracked or worn then it needs to be replaced the powersteering pump is bad if it's hard to turn the steering wheel make sure it has power steering fluid and that it does't leak
Check belt Check Fluid Maybe a bad pump
