disconnect the vacum line on the distributer
The timing marks on an 84 Ford Straight 6 is on the driver's side of the engine. It is above the crankshaft pulley, attached to the timing cover.
On the front of the timing chain cover, drivers side towards the top of the harmonic balancer.

the timing marks are located next to the top left side of the crank pulley
Timing marks on the gears are aligned with marks on the belt. I have seen a Chinese made belt that had the timing marks on the wrong side of the belt so if it just doesn't seem that things are aligning properly, try transferring the marking to the other side of the belt, flip it over, and try again.
They are on the top timing gear with a mark on the side of it and also on the bottom one on the side
They are on the harmonic balancer but are they on the drivers side or on the passenger side?
Pull the chrome cover of the left side of the motor the timing marks are on the fly wheel. An F and a T.
Drivers side, near the bottom of the engine is the Crank timing plate.
The cover on the passenger side of the motor has long lines on it, those are your timing marks. Hold the timing gun above them and look directly down to the crankshaft pully.
On the flywheel. Match the ball which is I believe around 5 degrees with the tab. Timing marks are through access hole with tab on passenger side.
On the transaxle(transmission) bell housing, on the driver's side. there should be a little window cut out on the top there are some notches there. That's the timing marks.
