The first thing you do is have a look if you have run out of power steering fluid. look into the top of the power steering fluid container and if you can not see any top it up to the point indicated on the container. run the engine move the steering around a little and see if you need topping up again. Some vehicles have a separate power steering belt that runs the power steering pump check if it is not broken or loose. otherwise have a word with your mechanic.
The filler tube is marked, on the diesel at least. It is under the bonnet.
