Same way you get them to use the toilet, first put the litter box where you want the pads, after about a week put little litter in box, after another week take all the litter out and put a pad in once the cat is used to this take the box away but put a small pile of litter on the pad. Then take the litter away. The thing is a box is probably better, using pads causes a much stronger cat urine smell.

You cant train your cat to not use the bathroom during the day. That would be bad for them if they had to wait all day to pee or poop. OK, here's the deal: Train yourself not to pee all day and if you can hold it for 12 hours without having to use the bathroom, then you can train your cat by closing the door to the room that your cat's litter box is in.... OK, now I'm going to be serious... YOU CANT TRAIN ANYTHING TO NOT USE THE BATHROOM DURING THE DAY. An average human cant even go 1 or 2 hrs without having to pee. And DEFINITELY NOBODY can hold it within the time of day. Which would be around 9- 12 hrs. So you cant train your cat to hold it especially when they cant do the pee pee dance or hold themselves or cross their legs. (trust me I have 8 cats. They cant go 1 hr without having to use the bathroom). Oh and when I said it would be bad for them that means that it would hurt them and mess up their bladder and they wouldn't be able to control when and where they use the bathroom at. So if their bladder messes up because if you want them to hold it forever. Then don't get mad when you find pee on the floor.
