Go out and buy a "Memory Stick", If your Computer is USB enabled then you should be able to plug the memory stick into a free USB port. It will come with the required drivers so provided you have purchased a Memory Stick with a large memory capacity you should have no problems moving the files. you simply Remove the memory stick from the PC you are transfering files from and then insert it into the PC you are transfering the files too. Or you could just get an MP3 player with Removable Storage enabled. ;-)

maybe by flashdrives

First, connect the external device and send all the files that you want to send it to other computer. Do this by copying and then pasting the file or right clicking it and sending it to media device and once you are done with all the sending, you can eject and disconnect the device.

Next, you can connect the external device to the other computer to which you want to send the files to. Then find all the files you want to transfer and then copy and paste it to the preferred location on the destination computer.

Once done, you can eject and then disconnect the device.

There is also another alternate way by sending the files to the computer through the internet. Files can be sent through email or FTP or an instant messaging program so if there's another person he can download it to the preferred location on the destination computer.

Hope this helps.

The easiest way is to use a Flash Drive, or Memory Stick. Put it into your PC USB drive and place your files on it, then put it in new computer and take them off. Or you can burn your information to a CD or DVD and transfer that way. You can also use certain websites to upload your information onto there servers and then download that information onto your new computer.

1. Plug in the hard drive

2. Open My Computer.

3. Double-click on your hard drive's icon. It is likely labeled either "Removable drive" or with the name of the manufacturer.

4. Drag files that you want to put on the drive from their location on your computer into the drive.

5. Right-click the icon in the system tray on the lower right-hand side labeled "Safely Remove Hardware." Select your external hard drive

6. Once it tells you you can remove the drive, you can safely unplug it.

If you are not running Windows on your Mac:

Once connected and switched on the icon for external drive will appear on the Desktop. Double click that icon to open a window to see what is on the external drive. You can click and drag files into that window or just drag them onto drive's icon. From within an application you can select the external drive in the Save dialogue box and then save files directly to the external drive. When finished with the drive right click on its icon and select Eject from the menu.

How does an exterior hard drive work?

Think of an external hard drive like a normal hard drive working outside your computer, they work very much in the same way. Normally (unless you are using a SCSI hard drive), they can be connected to your computer via a Firewire or USB connection. If you have a key-drive(aka USB memory stick),they work like a miniature external hard drive in the sense that they store date in an external format; an external hard drive is just like a large key-drive. With both a keydrive and an external hard drive, you simply connect it to your computer, and access its files. When you want to access your internal hard drive, you go to MyComputer and then select the C: drive; The external hard drive is a similar process, you select it's icon (located either on the desktop or MyComputer) and then you can access its files like a normal hard drive. You can drag files out of it onto your desktop, or alternatively, drag files into it to transfer files from your computer.

If you keep files on computer and external but delete some items from computer files will that update on the external drive?

No, you have to also delete what you want from the external hard drive. Remember, an external hard drive is just like a internal one. So, for example, if you delete picture a on the internal hard drive, that's all that is deleted. If picture a is also on the external hard drive (why would it be though), then you need to also delete it there.

What's the best way to transfer over my files to a new hard drive?

The best way would be to create a ghost image of the existing hard drive, that has all your files and copy it, into an external USB hard drive or a secondary internal hard drive. Some ghost software packages only cost a few bucks, but basic versions can be downloaded for free.
