I have tried hydrocortisone (CortAid), diphenhydramine HCL (Benadril), and calamine lotion. Each have a very small, and temporary effect. Nothing works permanently. An internet search produced a rumor that Tequila poured on the rash will help.
I'm not sure if I want to waste my Hornitos externally. I think it may do more good in my belly than on my skin.
Apparently, this is an allergic reaction similar to what you can expect from poison ivy and the like. It is primarily caused by calcium oxalates (sp). Don't take this as gospel, but it would seem that it is only necessary to see a doctor in either of two circumstances: one, if you experience physical symptoms beyond the normal rash/itching/pustules (those other symptoms would include vomiting, fever, swelling, etc.); two, if the pustules burst and become infected. Aside from these two circumstances, I recommend caladryl or similar, cool saline compresses, and oral antihistamines. How do I know this? I found out the hard way, and needed silver sulfadiazine after my pustules ruptured. Thinking back on it, I wonder if witch hazel could have been helpful in the early stages. I don't think I'll be exposing myself again to find out. Good luck.

I cut down a large agave plant yesterday and developed a very burning and itchy rash where the juice from the plant touched my skin. I never heard of this before and was wondering what is the best procedure to treat it. Thank you for any help you can give. Mark C. Branda

Stay out of the sun and the rash you get from being out in the sun will go away. There is no way to treat the butterfly rash on your face as it means you are having a flare. The best way to deal with it is to cover it with makeup and see your doctor for treatment to get you out of your flare.
