breather tube breather tube
Unscrew the battery connectors, unhook the condensation tube, lift the battery out of the holder. Put the new battery into the holder and reconnect everything. It is always a good idea to disconnect the negative battery connection first and replace it last to prevent accidental shorting.
If it's an automatic, this is likely the transmission breather tube, it should reach up and hook to a clip right around the battery tray, do not plug it.

"Why is your Breather tube for the transfer case blowing out transmission fluid in your 1998 Chevy SIlverado Z71?" Check the level of fluid, it is most likely overfilled. Heat will expand the fluids, that's why there is a certain fill point. The breather tube is to let air out from the expansion of fluid, and to let air back in when fluid cools. No you just stay clear
If it is an automatic, that is most likely the transmission breather tube, which prevents pressure from building up in the transaxle as the oil heats up and expands. The tube itself should remain vertical, and clip up under the battery tray.
The Automatic transmission breather tube is on the drivers side of the vehicle and is under the air filter box under the hood, it often reaches up near the battery tray.
