Connect the power leads to the vehicle battery. Connect the control lead to the plug wire on the first cylinder spark plug. With the engine running, aim the light at the timing marks to read the timing of the engine.
You will need to use a Timing Gun as otherwise the car will not run properly or not at all due to the ECU
a timing gun
The same way you set the timing of any Z24 engine. The vehicle it is in makes no difference. Do you know how to use a timing gun.
Timing gun
attach a timing gun to your battery and number one spark plug wire, mark the timing marks on the front harmonic balancer and engine block and use the gun to set the timing to factory specs by loosening and rotating the distributor left or right.
A strobe gun is also called a timing light. It is a device used to set ignition timing on car engines that use distributor ignition systems. It has a way to connect to an ignition wire (usually a clamp induction pickup). The gun flashes whenever the spark plug it's connected to fires.
There are no timing marks. The timing is controlled by the PCM. Power control module. It is not possible to set the timing with a timing gun.
you may have to get underneath the car to be able to use the timing light
find the marks on the pullys, they should line up with the 01234 marked on the faceplate of the timing belt cover, should show to be on 0 i beleive. use a timing gun
Pulses of light blink every time the cylinder which the timing gun is hooked up to fires. Typically, a timing gun is hooked up to cylinder #1. When that cylinder fires, a pulse of light occurs. The timing gun it to be aimed at a marking on the front of the engine, usually the harmonic balancer. By looking at the mark, you can determine how advanced (ahead) or retarded (behind) the engine is running. This is usually measured in degrees.
Any that do not use a timing belt use a timing chain.
Bring it to a shop and have them adjust the timing with a timing gun I believe its 6*
