You can smoke it or soak it in diesel. Second opinion: You can soak a piece of steel wool in vinegar overnight. Remove the steel wool and mix the vinegar solution with an equal part water. (i.e. 1 cup of water for 1 cup of vinegar) Brush it on a test piece. Add water if it's too dark, less water if it's too light. Produces a silver to black finish, depending on the strength of the solution.
