The letter should be as brief and to the point as this example. The language should be professional and end by thanking the employer. This will help avoid saying something that may negatively impact future good relations with this employer, especially if you use them as a reference.
A letter as final as a resignation letter should NOT be the first instance that your employer knows of your dissatisfaction with compensation at the company. There should have been at least one conversation on the subject, prior to your final decision to leave, giving the employer an opportunity to satisfy your needs. That is the professional way to handle this type of situation.
