To open the hood when the cable is broken on a 1997 Silverado, you can try using a coat hanger to manipulate the latch and push it away from you. You could also try using a long screwdriver to move the hood latch.
cable broke release latch for the hood can't open it
how do you open the hood on a 1992 buick regal if the cable is broke
How much cable came out when broke? Cut the plastic cable back to the point where you can see the steel cable core and pull with vice grips to open. You can pull the cable around to handle easier. If it broke under the hood try to find the cable and do the same.
if your latch just broke, use a vice grip. if the cable itself has snapped, it gets tricker. my 2nd cutlass's cable snapped. i had to lift and jerk the hood manually until it came loose.
i had the same problem. the hood release is controlled by a cable. what i had to do was take off the cover by the driver side seat, grab the cable with a pair of vise gripps and pull the wire in the cable with a pair of pliers. it sounds crude but that's the only way to get the hood up. by the way,i would take it somewhere to get the cable replaced.it's buried!!!!!
Ecklers has the replacement cable and "Installation instructions" which show how to get the hood open so you can relace the cable. Tried to attach the diagram, but no attachment tool here.
the cable is either stretched or broke
the 71 cutlass has no cable pull on latch in the middle of grill or just below frt. bumper
if the cable broke at the handle inside the car there will be a black cable with steel cable inside cut the black cable back so you see the steel cable get a par of visegrip pliers and pole the steel cable til the hood opens.
pry bar and duc tape
grab the broken end of the cable with vice grips and pull it
i have a 1994 pnotiac sunbird that the handle broke off on the cable under the dash to open the hood. you can open the hood with a little patience and a fairly long screwdriver by releasing the latch under the hood. after this, on my sunbird, i just pulled the cable all the way out under the hood, tied it under the front of the car, and just pull it to release the switch. (thats only because i am too cheap and lazy to spend the money and time on a cable and install it.)
