Martin Luther King, Jr. was a great speaker and social activist. However, in his writings he denied the deity of Christ, His virgin birth and His resurrection. He lumped all religions into the same class. So it appears he was not a Christian in the born-again evangelical sense.

Jesus Christ and Martin Luther King Jr. (Many more though)
He told them the truth: they were being greedy and almost entirely the opposite of what they should have been as Christian leaders. Nobody likes being told they are wrong, especially when they know it to be true and when people might start to realise and do something about it. In their case, the easiest way out was to simply excommunicate him and denounce him as a heretic, or an evildoer of many types.
Desiderius Eramsmus was a very important scholar . In 1509he published a book , The Praise of Folly, in which criticized corrupt clergy. Erasmus also wanted to get rid of some church rituals , he emphasized devotion to God and the teachings of Jesus. Martin Luther added his voice to the call for reform. He nailed a list of complaints about the church to the door of a church in Wittenberg in the German state of Saxony. Luther's list of complaints is called the Ninety-Five Theses .

The answer will surely vary but some believe the first to combine Judeo-Christian teachings on righteousness and social justice with secular philosophical humanism was Justin Martyr in the 2nd Century AD. See related link below for more historical developments:
jesus loves him.
Martin Luther rebelled regarding the indulgences and practices of the Church, not about the teaching of the church which were created by a Roman leader named Constantine in 325 CE in Nicea. Many of the teachings were anti Jesus, nut inclusive.
The Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ. The Lutheran Church was founded by Martin Luther, a mere man. The Catholics feel they have kept the teachings and traditions passed down to us intact while Luther picked and chose what his church would follow, tossing out those articles of faith he had a personal disagreement with.

Many people have been inspired by Jesus - I'm pretty sure Martin Luther King was as well....

An answer from a Catholic member of our community:The teachings of the Catholic Church are nothing other than the teaching of Our Blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who is God, who established "His" Church, and guaranteed "His" Church and send the Holy Spirit to guide "His" Church until the end of the world. The teachings of Martin Luther are those of a man who made up his own teachings fifteen centuries later to suit himself, edited the Bible to suit himself. Now why would you pose a question that assumes that a man's teachings are "better" than God's teachings? The only way to answer that question in a postive manner is to assume that Martin Luther corrected the Catholic Church's teaching and that Jesus Christ obviously could not follow through on His promise to preserve the Church from error.
