I think that one thing Moses did was convey the Israelite's power in God and how they were chosen to use that great power. They were always God's chosen people, so that was something that they needed to understand. Moses, by leading them out of Egypt, helped them understand that God loved them dearly and that He had chosen them to carry his Word to the world. Specifically, Moses stayed faithful in the Lord. He had faith that God would lead them out of Egypt even though after nine plagues that Pharaoh still did not permit them to leave. He had faith that He could part a sea to allow hundreds, or thousands, of people through without getting harmed. Moses rebuked them after coming down the mountain with the Ten Commandments to make them understand that as God's chosen people, idolatry and sexual immorality were not to be part of their lives.
