-This sensor is usually a coiled winding of very thin wire with a very thin insulator that is constantly being exposed to varying magnetic field as electrical current flows through it. This causes the metal to change molecularly and eventually it can cause a wire break (open circuit).
-Exposed to head and vibration the extremely thin coating of insulation on the tightly wound coil of wire can break down causing an internal electrical short.
-Cylindrically shaped cam sensors can be crushed as corrosion developes in the bore the sensor is inserted into. Also, installed height may be incorrect and can cause rubbing.
-Flat cam sensors can have a gasket leak. Not knowing how to obtain a new gasket otherwise, a mechanic may decide to sell you a new sensor (which comes with a gasket.)
-Most cam sensors pick up from a spinning toothed wheel. If this wheel becomes damaged or moves, it may impact the sensor destroying the sensor in the process.
-Some cam sensors pick up from a moving magnet which disintegrates after long term exposure to engine oils. A bad or missing magnet is often misdiagnosed as a bad sensor.
-Many cam sensors are part of a (functional or vestigial) distributor. These are a special case with all kinds of wonderful stuff that can happen requiring replacement of the unit for repair.
engine light will go on and give you code
The camshaft position sensor for the 3.0L V-6 engine is located in the distributor. Good Luck!
The camshaft position sensor is located on the side of the engine towards the front of the car. It is toward the drivers side just below the fuel rail.
It is located on the backside of the engine. Go to youtube and type in how to replace camshaft sensor on 2005 Nissan altima and it will show where it is and how to replace it, that is how I did my one.
where does the camshaft sensor go in a 1992 Cadillac Sedan Deville?
3.9L, 5.2L, 5.9L the camshaft position sensor is located under the distributor cap you have to remove it carefully and it will go only one way. 3.7L, 4.7L it is under the front outside of the passenger side cylinder head
The sensors that usually go bad in a Dodge truck are the throttle position sensor, the oxygen sensor, engine light sensor and crank sensor. These malfunctions can be fixed on any Dodge dealership.
It could be possible but very improbable. You need to take it to a repair shop and have it put on a scanner and NOT a code reader, A scanner will direct you in the right direction for a proper repair.
it is part of the engine i had go bad
location of most new camshaft positionsthe camshaft position sensor is normally located on the distributor just below the houseing for it first try cleaning the inside of dist. cause a lil dirt can cause it to fail but not go outon some vehicles that have no distributor or not one where used to seing you may have to ask a shop to tell you where it would be but few cars are using this setup right now
what can make a crank shaft sensor keep goin bad even if its been replaced 4 times.. in a 2000 oldsmobile bravada
If you have a 4g63 motor a common problem is crankwalk, this will damage or break off the sensor.
