a balanced modulator can use any non linear device which has a response of the form:- i=a+ bv + cv2 +..... it generally utilises a push pull FET circuit or a pair of identical diodes. the modulating voltage is tapped in between and with RF in series is fed to both source of FET. the gate of both FET gets AF and RF, AF tapped from either side of secondary coil makes it 180 deg out of phase. the drain outcome is added by which the phase opp carrier cancells leaving sidebands and modulating freq, which also can be filtered with tuned secondary at load.

1) To generate a Double Side Band-Full Carrier(DBS-FC)
2) To generate a Double Side Band-Supressed Carrier(DSB-SC)
This are two different types of Amplitude Modulated Wave which are used to carry information
It is mostly used ofr 2nd purpose because for DSB-FC more power is consumed as compared to DSB-SC

Assuming this is a PowerGlide or Turbo-350 automatic transmission vacuum modulator, to minimize fluid loss jack up the rear of the truck and support with suitable jack stands, place a drip pan under the modulator, pull off the vacuum line from the modulator, remove the small bolt and clamp holding the modulator in place, gently twist and pull the modulator out taking care not to lose the small actuator pin inside. Keep the dirt from entering the opening. Install the new modulator with a new o-ring.
