The Bible is very clear that the Father wills for all to come to salvation and knowledge of the truth. You are not saved because of anything you do or believe, it is all Christ.

The Bible tells us that we are saved by grace through faith, and that is not out of ourselves, it is a gift of God and not of works lest anyone boast. There is no boasting, hence no one can say they are saved because of something they did, even their faith is not to their credit, but it is a gift of God.

God gives faith to people to believe Jesus is the Savior of the world, not just their own personal savior. You will notice that the bible also says "We serve the living God, the Savior of all men, and especially of those that believe. The bottom line, though, is to trust God when He says he'll never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5, quoting Deuteronomy 31:6). There will be times when you won't "feel saved." There will be times when you'll have doubts thrown at you because you didn't do this or didn't experience that. There will be times when you'll stumble and fall, and some will say that you "lost your salvation," or that God doesn't love you anymore. The latter will never be true (Romans 8:37-39).

When we say saved it usually means you take Christ into your heart and admit to him you have sinned. It's a release and not a punishment. You try to live each day with goodness in your heart and try to help others.
