I found and excellent set of books, MENTAL EFFICIENCY SERIES from Funk and Wagnalls Company. Published in 1915, it will do some online searching to find I suppose but it contains an excellent volume called TIMIDITY How to Overcome it.
The main point I got from the book was the recognition of one's worth wherein it is written "He does not realize that his being so uncommunicative makes it difficult to give himself the due credit for his knowledge and his intelligence."
So, it starts with trying not to be so self-conscious about what others are thinking about you as for the most part, most people are very self-centered and concentrating about themselves and not really overly concerned about others.
Realize that you are just every bit as good as others and that if you fear no one will like you or that they will laugh at you, relaize that everyone has had this fear one time or another. All it takes is a small smile and hello to open the world of new friendships and build a strong self-esteem. If a person does not respond, so what, move on and keep smiling. Soon enough you will find that people do respond to kind smiles and hello's. And soon will will find your timidity overcome and behind you.
One can work on boosting self-confidence through positive self-talk, practicing assertiveness, and facing fears gradually through exposure therapy. Seeking guidance from a therapist or counselor can also help in addressing underlying causes of timidity and developing coping strategies. Building a supportive network of friends and practicing self-care to manage stress can further aid in overcoming timidity.
Reserved, timid, bashful.
Not necessarily. "Timid" typically implies shyness or a lack of confidence, but it is not inherently negative. Some people may see timidity as a positive trait, such as being cautious or thoughtful. It all depends on the context and perspective.
Shy typically refers to feeling nervous or timid in social situations, while timid suggests being easily frightened or lacking in courage. Shyness often involves feeling uncomfortable with attention or new people, while timidity may involve a more general fear or hesitance.
Not normally ... the descriptor is "timid". However, if the person were extremely interested, or involved in, say, the study of timidity, one could say he or she is "the timidity person" (as in "the heart surgeon", or less technically "a motorbike person").
To switch from a timid personality to an assertive one, you can start by practicing assertiveness skills such as clear communication, setting boundaries, and standing up for yourself. Building self-confidence through positive self-talk and acknowledging your strengths can also help in projecting assertiveness. It's important to remember that assertiveness is about expressing your needs and opinions while respecting others.

It is difficult to keep a cat from being less timid. The best thing to do to get them used to a new place, or new people, is to introduce them slowly. In a new place, keep the cat in one room until it gets used to the new smells and surroundings.
