Physical geography significantly influenced the way people lived in ancient Egypt. The annual flooding of the Nile River provided fertile soil for agriculture, which was essential for their economy and food supply. The desert landscape surrounding the Nile acted as a natural barrier, providing protection from invasions. Additionally, the availability of building materials such as mud bricks and limestone from quarries influenced the architecture and construction of cities and monuments.
